Anxiety Disorders
Conditions
Characterized by significant feelings of excessive and persistent worry around current and/or future events, anxiety can often inhibit people from performing their normal tasks and routines. Although anxiety can be normal in stressful situations (ie: taking a test, public speaking, fight or flight), it becomes a problem when the feelings are excessive, all-consuming and interfering with a person’s daily live life.
Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) is primarily characterized by excessive worrying about everyday things, most days of the week, and for 6 months or longer. Sometimes people with GAD have become so accustomed to dealing with symptoms of their anxiety that they perceive symptoms of anxiety as characteristics of themselves, not the illness. That’s why if you think you might have anxiety, it’s best to get assessed by professional in order to determine the correct diagnosis.
